In fact, a lot of people did. In and of itself, that’s not the end of the world.
But what can mess with you over the long haul, in terms of your self-confidence and self-worth, is when a gym teacher, coach, or even a parent tossed out a damaging comment that meant nothing to them, but everything to you.
Such as: “You’re just not very good at this, are you?”
Or: “Please sit on that bench while your teammates finish up.”
Or even: “You’re embarrassing yourself out there, maybe you should quit?”
For some people—maybe you included—this unhelpful formative experience turns them off to all types of movement and physical activity long into adulthood.
If any of that rings true, I’m going to suggest you try running. More specifically, Offline Running, a coaching service I recently started.
Offline Running is stripped down, low-tech, high-accountability, ALWAYS POSITIVE coaching that guides and inspires you to run for a lifetime.
Offline Running also guides you to embrace a certain type of running. As in, running that is natural, intentional, and unencumbered by technology.
Also, running that is simple, doable, convenient, inexpensive, offers countless physical and mental benefits, and is entirely appropriate for all body shapes, sizes, ages, and ability levels.
In short, other than quitting that stupid team all those years ago, signing up for Offline Running may be the best sporting decision you’ve ever made.
